The one-year program, Suvarnam Chinmaya, celebrated its successful initiation and progress this year, with a grand inauguration by the Hon’ble Governor of Kerala
Shri Arif Mohammed Khan. This program commemorates a long history of service and dedication to the field of education by the first ever college of CMECT(Chinmaya Mission Educational and Cultural Trust) - Chinmaya Mission College which began on August 12, 1975, under the guidance and blessings of Swami Chinmayananda.
Chinmaya Mission College was founded as a beacon of hope for those who couldn’t access mainstream education, inspired by a group of Retired Professors from reputed regular colleges understood the societal need and appealed to Swami Chinmayananda to establish an educational institution for students. Their vision was simple but profound:to provide quality education that imparts both knowledge and values, and open doors for students who otherwise would be left out of formal higher education. With Swamiji's blessing, the college began its journey, fostering holistic learning and character-building.
Over the years, Chinmaya Mission College has produced alumni who are now leaders, educators, and responsible citizens contributing to society. These alumni remain involved and supportive of the institution, and this one-year Suvarnam Chinmaya program is an outcome of their contributions. The program has become a testament to the enduring values instilled in each student and symbolizes the unity and commitment of the Chinmaya family towards expanding the reach of quality education.
Swami Chinmayananda was a great soul who interpreted the self-knowledge that ancient sages acquired through penance in the light of modern science. With the spiritual insight of revered Gurudev, who attained the heights of spirituality, he envisioned and initiated an institution dedicated to knowledge. With utmost reverence, we bow before Gurudev, who established a college as a mission of spirituality under the respected name "Chinmaya." This August 12 marks the 50th anniversary of Chinmaya’s first institution. Guided by the Gita's principle, "Shraddhavan labhate jnanam" (The faithful attains wisdom), countless students who studied here over the years have illuminated various paths in life.
As the Golden Jubilee celebrations unfold, spanning from August 12, 2024, to August 12, 2025, alumni and well-wishers gathered to commemorate the legacy of this institution.
The inauguration ceremony was held on August 12, 2024 and was presided over by H H Swami Viviktananda Saraswati, head of the Chinmaya Mission Kerala Chapter. His Excellency Arif Mohammed Khan, the honourable Governor of Kerala, inaugurated the event by lighting the ceremonial lamp. The event included an honouring ceremony for retired teaching and non-teaching staff, the laying of the foundation stone for a new building donated by the alumni association as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations, and a scholarship presentation supported by the Chinmay Mission and Dubai Chapter of the Alumni Association.
The Suvarnam Chinmaya program was launched with support from the institution's management, alumni, and well-wishers. During the inauguration, the presence of the Governor of Kerala as the Chief Guest elevated the event, emphasizing the program's importance and the high regard held for the Chinmaya institutions. The event was presided by MLA - Sri Xavier Chittilappilli, who praised the initiative and pledged support for its continued success, marking the occasion as a notable achievement for the institution and the community.
The one-year program is designed to assist students who may not gain admission to mainstream courses but possess the enthusiasm and determination to pursue further education. This initiative aims to empower these students by providing them with academic courses, vocational training, and moral education that will prepare them for better opportunities. It serves as a bridge, allowing students to build foundational skills and transition to further studies or careers.
The inauguration ceremony was marked by vibrant cultural programs, showcasing the talent and creativity of current students and alumni. These performances added a celebratory spirit to the day, reflecting the values of unity and dedication that the college has always upheld. Performances included classical and folk dances, music recitals, and drama, each capturing the cultural richness and diversity embraced by the institution.
In addition to cultural displays, the program included speeches from distinguished alumni who shared their journeys, struggles, and success stories, inspiring current students and illustrating the value of perseverance and dedication. The alumni emphasized the importance of giving back to the institution that shaped them, which has driven them to support Suvarnam Chinmaya wholeheartedly.
The Suvarnam Chinmaya program stands as a unique initiative blending tradition and modernity in education, fulfilling Swami Chinmayananda’s vision of creating educated, moral, and empowered youth. It reflects the commitment of the Chinmaya family to continue uplifting society, ensuring education reaches those who are unable to access mainstream streams. As we conclude this successful inauguration and look forward to the program’s continuation, we remain grateful for the support of alumni, management, and the entire Chinmaya community.
The year ahead promises to be filled with growth, learning, and transformation for the participating students, fulfilling the long-standing mission of Chinmaya Mission College and making a meaningful impact on countless lives.
